Adafruit Arduino Ethernet shield

February 25th, 2008 by Garth

The Adafruit Arduino Ethernet Shield kit is a great way to make your Arduino projects networkable. The kit needs an ethernet port such as the XPort or the XPort Direct

This makes developing sensor networks extremely easy, and opens up Open Sound Control to Arduino projects

NET485 – RS485 to Ethernet Adapter

February 25th, 2008 by Garth

These NET485 - RS485 to Ethernet Adapters look very handy for putting serial devices, like sensor CV units online or networking a number of them together.

At US$99 they are quite a good price for an embedded system of this kind

Whitney Artport: Code as Art

February 20th, 2008 by Garth

While digging around for information on code-art today, I found the Whitney site - Whitney Artport: Commissions which includes a range of commissions for software based art

I also found the The "Histories of Internet Art: Fictions and Factions" web site which "is an online-only exhibition of the early (and continuous) history of Internet art".

Both have some interesting content and are worth a look.

UbiSense RF tracking

February 19th, 2008 by Garth

UbiSense have developed a break-through in the application of a radio frequency (RF) technology called ultra-wideband (UWB) has enabled Ubisense to build a revolutionary real-time location system (RTLS) which delivers very high positional accuracy in traditionally challenging environments at reliability levels unachievable by legacy technologies such as conventional RFID or WiFi.

The 15cm 3D positional accuracy in real-time delivered by the Ubisense system is enabling a number of new applications including:

  • Precision device location in space and time, for example to associate the data from a bar code scanner with its location in a warehouse
