Ircam – Gesture

July 19th, 2006 by Garth

A useful although very incomplete list of dance and technology links Ircam - Gesture

No Australian representation here which is a shame - perhaps we should do something about that? Let me know if you are working with dance and technology and provide a link and I will see if I can compile a list for IRCAM to add to the site.

Cheers
Garth

The Bulletin – Music taking the world by storm

July 13th, 2006 by Garth

My Meterosonics installations - Meterosonics online is the focus of an article by Joshua Gliddon in The Bulletin Magazine this week. You can read the article here
The Bulletin - Music taking the world by storm

and download the software for meterosonics from Meterosonics

I expect to have the documentation online soon re a plugin architecture for JSyn algorithms to add to the system, and a protocol to add weather stations to the system. The intention is to have a community of weather sonification where you can add your algorithms and weather data to the system - please send me an email if this interests you.

I also have an OSC client which allows you to use the data in other applications that support OSC.

Enjoy......

Beat Furrer – Fama – Agora / Résonances 2006

July 1st, 2006 by Garth

This piece by Beat FurrerFama was the most extraordinary performance event I saw at this years Agora/Resonance festival in Paris. The entire roon in which the audience sat (perhaps 100 people) was built of revolving wall and ceiling panels that had an acoustically absorbant surface on one side and reflective surface on the other. Ther vocalist, Isabelle Menke, who was wonderfully full of energy throughout the performance moved through the space turning the panels so as to change the acoustic of the space. As the performance progressed the ensemble spread out around the outside of the walls and as the panels were opened and closed the sound quality and amplitude of their instruments was controlled - revealed and disguised. The ensemble passed notes/timbres/sounds from one side to the other, and I often looked for microphones, synthesisers and amplification - none was present - the effect of spatialisation and of timbral composition was totally enveloping and engrossing - I have never heard spatialisation like it - a highly reccomended performance - well worth getting the CD for a listen.
