I am most excited about the potential of connecting devices like the Midi-Fighter, which consume very little power, to the Ipad which now has access to a full Itunes music library. These 2 could be a micro dj world that promises to be a lot of fun in a very light package! Direct MIDI support means you may actually be able to use existing midi equipment, were previously any hardware connected to the Ipad required a special license and had to pay a steep fee!

Alternatively, if you already own an Ipad- you may have soon have access to dozens of virtual controllers that can be endlessly configured and tuned to suit your needs. The new CORE midi mcts functionality on the Ipad means that developers can easily make midi controller aps that work with your dj software. Their are some limitations to touch based controllers though. As we all know, djs love their knobs and faders but the Ipad also brings a lot of exciting new controls to the table including:

    * gyroscope
    * acceleration
    * multi touch functionality

Hi Jimmy

Thanks for your comments and interest. I have been using the Soundfield SPS200 quite a bit and finding the surround image from the recordings to be very impressive when decoded in 5.1 and above. The spatialisation and general spread are very good. The Edirol R-44 with the Oade Brothers mic pre upgrade is small and very convenient. I have found the mic pres to still be a little noisy for quiet night time recording of insects and birds etc. I have an RME Quadmic which I intend to use in these more demanding situations and then feed as line input to the R-44. I did a quiet dawn recording yesterday and noted the noise in the R-44 mic pres (Doug Oade did warn me they would not really be up to such a task, so he was clear about the limitations in design) - I am intending to do a similar recording using the QuadMic and see what the difference is. I will post here. Cheers, Garth
